When a customer pays your business, you may not always be the only person who needs to receive that money.
Maybe you run an online learning business and need to pay a tutor. Maybe you work with a service provider and keep a percentage of every payment. Or perhaps you operate a business where different people earn a share of each transaction.
Normally, this means receiving the full payment first, calculating everyone’s share, and then sending separate payments.
VitalSwap Split Payment gives you a simpler way to handle this.
With Split Payment, you can create a Payment Link, assign percentages of the payment to registered VitalSwap users, and have the allocated amount automatically sent to the selected recipients when the payment is completed.
What Is VitalSwap Split Payment?
Let’s say a customer pays ₦100,000 for a lesson.
You want:
- 80% (₦80,000) to go to the teacher
- 20% (₦20,000) to remain with your business
Instead of receiving ₦100,000 and manually calculating and transferring ₦80,000 to the teacher, you can set those percentages when creating the Payment Link.
The idea is simple:
Customer makes one payment → the payment is split according to your setup.
This can save you from having to manually work out and send each person’s share after every transaction.
How to Set Up Split Payment on VitalSwap
Setting up Split Payment starts from your VitalSwap Business Dashboard.
Step 1: Log in to your Business Dashboard
First, log in to your authorized VitalSwap Business Dashboard.
The setup guide also recommends testing the process in the test environment before running it.

Once you’re logged in, you’re ready to create the Payment Link.
Step 2: Create Your Payment Link
From the Business Dashboard, go to Products and select Create Payment Link.
You’ll then need to provide the basic details for the payment, including:
- Payment Link name
- Description
- Currency
- Amount
These details help define what your customer is paying for.

After entering the payment details, you can set up the people who should receive a percentage of the payment.
Step 3: Add Your Recipients and Set Their Percentages
This is where the Split Payment feature comes in.
You can add the email addresses or identifiers of the people who should receive a portion of the payment and assign the percentage they should receive.
For example:
Teacher – 80%
Business – 20%
One important requirement is that the recipients you add must be registered VitalSwap users.

Once you’ve added the recipients and assigned the percentages, you can create the Payment Link.
Step 4: Share the Payment Link
Once your Payment Link has been generated, copy the link and share it with the person making the payment.
The customer can then use the link to complete the payment.
The setup document demonstrates the payment process using a separate account that isn’t receiving a portion of the split.

The important part is that the split has already been configured before the payment is made.
You don’t have to wait until the money arrives before figuring out who gets what.
Step 5: Check the Transaction Settlement
After the payment has been completed, you can return to the Business Dashboard and check your transaction history.
According to the setup guide, you should see two transactions:
Transaction 1: The full payment amount is received by the main business.
Transaction 2: The calculated split percentage is automatically sent to the designated recipient.
This gives you a straightforward way to confirm that the payment and the split have been processed as expected.
Who Can Use Split Payment?
Split Payment can be useful for businesses where a single customer payment needs to be shared between the business and other people.
For example:
Online tutors and learning businesses
A student pays for a lesson, while the tutor receives an agreed percentage of the payment.
Businesses working with service providers
If you collect payment from a customer and a registered service provider is entitled to a percentage, you can set their share in advance.
Businesses working with partners
If different people or businesses earn a percentage from a transaction, you can configure the split before sharing the Payment Link.
The exact use case will depend on how your business handles its payments, but the principle remains the same:
Set the percentages once, then let the payment flow according to your setup.
Why Use Split Payment?
The biggest advantage is less manual work after a payment comes in.
Without a split payment setup, you may have to:
- Receive the customer’s payment.
- Calculate everyone’s share.
- Send the individual payments.
- Check that the right amounts were sent.
- Keep track of the transactions.
With VitalSwap Split Payment, you can determine the percentages when creating the Payment Link and have the allocated amount automatically sent to the designated recipient when the payment is completed.
That means fewer calculations and fewer separate transfers to handle.
Make Shared Payments Easier
When your business has more than one person earning from a transaction, managing the money shouldn’t become another task on your to-do list.
With VitalSwap Split Payment, you can create a Payment Link, decide how the payment should be divided, share the link with your customer, and verify the resulting transactions from your Business Dashboard.
Set the split. Share the link. Let the payment take care of the rest.
